McManis and Faulkner Named Super Lawyers AGAIN

McManis Faulkner name partners James McManis and William Faulkner have been named to the Northern California Super Lawyers 2011 Edition.  Compiled through peer nomination and research, approximately five percent (5%) of the Northern California Bar received the distinction.  McManis has been named to the Northern California Super Lawyers every year since 2004 and Faulkner has been named in 2004 and from 2006 to present.

In addition, for the third consecutive year, Partner Elizabeth Pipkin and Associate Christine Peek were named to the Northern California Super Lawyers 2011 Edition – Rising Stars.  Recognizing the top up-and-coming attorneys in the region, approximately two percent (2) of the Northern California Bar received this distinction.

Super Lawyers is a listing of outstanding lawyers, from more than 70 practice areas, who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.  The objective of the Super Lawyers selection process is to create a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys that may be used as a resource to assist in the search for legal counsel.  The selection process for Rising Stars is the same as the Super Lawyers selection process except that attorneys must be either 40 years old or younger, or in practice for ten years (10) or less. 

In the almost 40 years since founding McManis Faulkner, McManis has represented many Silicon Valley companies with commercial, trade secret and intellectual property issues, as well as individuals in a variety of matters, including civil rights actions, employment disputes, and criminal defense.  McManis is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, American College of Trial Lawyers and American Bar Foundation.  In addition, he serves on the executive committee of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers as Secretary of International Relations and Chair of the Academy’s prestigious China Program Chair.  Listed in The Best Lawyers in America, McManis received his J.D. from Berkeley Law at the University of California (1967) and his B.A. in history, with Distinction, Phi Beta Kappa, from Stanford University (1964). 

A member of the trial bar for more than 30 years, Faulkner leads the firm’s business practice.  A seasoned trial lawyer, he has represented many Silicon Valley companies with commercial, trade secret and intellectual property issues, as well as individuals in a variety of matters.  Recently inducted into the Litigation Counsel of America as a Fellow, Faulkner is also listed in The Best Lawyers in America.  He received his J.D. from Hastings College of the Law (1978) and his B.A. from Stanford University (1973).

Pipkin represents Fortune 500 companies, closely held businesses, charitable institutions and individuals in a range of trial work, including intellectual property disputes, securities fraud claims and personal injury cases.  In addition to her practice, she heads the firm’s associate training group and serves on the board of trustees of the Law Foundation of Silicon Valley, the largest provider of free legal services for those in need in Silicon Valley.  Pipkin was recently honored by the YWCA of Silicon Valley with a Tribute to Women and Industry (TWIN) Award.  She received her J.D. from Harvard Law School (2001) and her B.A. from Brigham Young University (1998).

Peek practices general civil litigation with a focus on constitutional law and lawsuits against government entities.  She has experience litigating state and federal constitutional issues in a wide variety of contexts, including business regulation, nuisance, takings, election law, public employment, compassionate use, selective enforcement, illegal search and seizure, and excessive force cases.  Peek is an active member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, currently serving on its Lawyer Referral Service, Rainbow and Appellate Courts Committees.  She received her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law (2004) and her B.A. in English from San Jose State University (2000).
