Chris Rosario Explores Trade Secret Protections for Cannabis Companies

Associate Christopher Rosario, in his byline article for Marijuana Venture, examines trade secret protections for companies in the cannabis industry. Chris defines the term “trade secret” generally and offers a few examples for business owners to help identify what might be a trade secret, such as horticulture practices, THC/CBD extraction processes, and edibles formulas.

As for protections, Chris says, “The owner of trade secret information retains the right to prevent its dissemination for as long as the information remains a secret.” However, once the secret is out, it may be lost forever. Chris states that cannabis companies, at a minimum, should identify what might be trade secret information, limit access to that information and require anyone with access to it to sign a nondisclosure agreement.
