The argument of Jim McManis before the California Supreme Court was featured in the article “Use of Personal Email Debated in Public Records Case,” published by Courthouse News Service on Dec. 7, 2016. The case centers on the City of San Jose’s claims that the California Public Records Act does not apply to texts and emails that pertain to the people’s business, but are sent or received on the private devices of public officials.
