07/20/2020 McManis Faulkner

In the Daily Journal article titled “Historic changes in State Bar exam leave few entirely happy,” partner Hilary Weddell reviews the California Supreme Court’s decision to postpone the state’s Bar Exam to October, 2020, along with a few other changes, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The main changes include shifting the test to an online format, lowering the passing score permanently, and issuing a temporary licensure for 2020 law school graduates who have not passed the examination.

With these changes paving a new road to the profession, Hilary says law firms will need to be more flexible to allow graduates time to study for the exam. “It’s an investment in them,” she says, explaining that firms should continue recruiting, mentoring and developing young lawyers whom they think could be great.
