In their article for the Daily Journal, partner Hilary Weddell and associate Andrew Parkhurst examine employees’ hazard pay requests during the COVID-19 pandemic. They define hazard pay and examine who is eligible to receive hazard pay, stating there is no requirement that private employers pay their employees hazard pay.
Hilary and Andrew also offer advice for employers for working with a fearful employee. They encourage open communication with an employee who is hesitant to return to work, and efforts to understand why the employee might be concerned. They say, “There may be childcare issues, underlying medical conditions that make them more susceptible, or they may be caring for a sick or elderly family member.”
