Hilary Weddell Writes on California Family Leave Protections for Daily Journal

Partner Hilary Weddell recently wrote an article for the Daily Journal’s “New Laws” supplement on California Assembly Bill 1041, which added additional protections to the state’s family leave laws. AB 1041 added a “designated person” to the list of persons for whom an employee may take family leave. A “designated person” is defined as any individual related by blood or whose association with the employee is equivalent of a family relationship.

“Millions of people rely on ‘chosen family’ for caregiving support,” says Hilary, noting that the traditional nuclear family structure has changed over the years and that the law allows for equal and protected leave access for LGBTQ individuals and those living in multigenerational households.
