James McManis, a founding partner of leading Northern California trial firm McManis Faulkner, has been named a Fellow of the Academy of Court-Appointed Masters (ACAM). He will be inducted at the ACAM’s annual meeting Jan. 25-26, 2013 at the PGA National Resort and Spa in West Palm Beach, Fla.
The membership of the ACAM is restricted to individuals who serve at the time of application or have previously served as a court-appointed master pursuant to judicial appointment or in a role substantially equivalent to the role of Master under Rule 53 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
As a member of the trial bar for more than 40 years, McManis represents Silicon Valley companies in commercial, trade secret and intellectual property matters. He previously served as Special Master for the Santa Clara County Superior Court, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in the Technical Equities cases, described as involving the largest securities fraud in California history. In addition, McManis served as a Judge Pro Tem for the Santa Clara County Superior Court and was previously a Special Examiner for the State Bar of California.
McManis also represents individuals in a wide variety of matters, including civil rights actions, employment disputes, family law and criminal defense. McManis was recently elected as an honorary bencher of the Honorable Society of King’s Inns in Dublin, Ireland and appointed to the newly established Task Force on Admissions Regulation Reform by the California State Bar. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, Litigation Counsel of America, American Bar Foundation and International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He earned his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (1967) and his B.A. in history, with distinction, Phi Beta Kappa, from Stanford University (1964).
