Upon the City of San Jose rescinding the $500 fines issued to residents who allegedly used illegal fireworks, the San Jose Mercury News interviewed Jim McManis. Representing one of the fined residents, McManis described the penalties as “scandalous way for the city to raise money” and was pleased the city was going back to the drawing board on the issue in the article “San Jose: Fireworks Fines a Dud – City Drops Citations,” which was published on Aug. 10, 2017.
