McManis Faulkner, a longtime supporter of San Jose Museum of Art (SJMA), is sponsoring the summer exhibition, “Rise Up! Social Justice In Art”, which will be a featured exhibit at SJMA through September 30, 2018. Collector J. Michael Bewley generously donated 12 important works, including paintings, prints, sculptures, and textiles by artists Robert Arneson, Sadie Barnette, Squeak Carnwath, Enrique Chagoya, Dorothy Cross, Luis Cruz Azaceta, Lesley Dill, Marlene Dumas, George Grosz, Wangechi Mutu, Chris Ofili, Tino Rodriguez, Alison Saar, Mickalene Thomas, and Kara Walker. These works of art embody the value system of their collector and explore issues that resonate with current political movements such as Black Lives Matter, #MeToo, and the contemporary LGBTQ movement. Collectively, they issue a call to action—rise up! Partner, William Faulkner has served on the Board of Directors of the SJ Museum of Art since 1993 and is also a member of the Executive Committee.
