Michael Warren Comments on California Lawsuit Against Rideshare Companies – Bloomberg Law
Partner Michael Warren recently spoke with Bloomberg Law regarding California’s lawsuit against rideshare companies Uber and Lyft for alleged violations of the state’s worker classification laws. The lawsuit claims the companies misclassified their drivers as independent contractors rather than workers in violation of Assembly Bill 5, which took effect Jan. 1, 2020.
Michael explains this lawsuit is a message sent by the state, possibly to target larger companies and shake up the entire gig economy. He explains however that “This case won’t likely settle before the voters get a chance to weigh in,” referring to a proposed initiative that the companies are pushing to get on the November ballot.
