James McManis Joins Sinotalks Advisory Board, Reaffirming Commitment to Shaping Chinese Law and Policy

McManis Faulkner founder and partner James McManis has joined the advisory board of Sinotalks.

Led by the founding team of Stanford Law School's highly-regarded China Guiding Cases Project, Sinotalks is a trusted repository of knowledge about Chinese law and policy and helps professionals, businesses, policymakers, and other stakeholders craft evidence-based strategies for their China-related issues. Sinotalks seeks to promote understanding and international collaboration around Chinese laws and issues affecting China and beyond.

“McManis Faulkner has been a steadfast ally for the China Guiding Cases Project and its mission, and Sinotalks only furthers the impressive, groundbreaking work from Dr. Mei Gechlik and her team,” said McManis. “Collectively, we are informing audiences globally on Chinese law and policy and how to respond to problems and find strategic solutions. China plays a key role in our global economy, and understanding its evolving laws has never been so important.”

An influential figure in highlighting Chinese law and policy, McManis spoke at a China Guiding Cases Project program in Beijing in 2018, and he has twice published articles in the project’s magazine China Law Connect. A longtime area of interest for McManis, he and his firm hosted the International Association of Trial Lawyers (IATL) China Program, and he served as the program’s chair from 2010-2017.

A seasoned trial lawyer, McManis handles commercial, trade secrets and intellectual property matters, in addition to his civil rights work. He has been a member of the trial bar for more than 50 years, representing individuals in civil rights actions, employment disputes, family law and criminal defense. McManis is an Honorary Bencher of the Honorable Society of King’s Inns, the oldest institution of legal education in Ireland. In addition, he is a Fellow of the Academy of Court Appointed Neutrals, the American College of Trial Lawyers, the Litigation Counsel of America, the American Bar Foundation and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. McManis received his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (1967) and his B.A. in history, with Distinction, Phi Beta Kappa, from Stanford University (1964).
