Partner Brandon Rose and associate Beverly Bergstrom recently authored an article for the Daily Journal’s “Top Family Lawyers” award supplement about how lawyers may better understand the impact of artificial intelligence on the legal profession.
Brandon and Beverly acknowledge the allure of AI and the benefits it could provide lawyers, but they warn that too much trust in AI tools may lead to ethical violations. Additionally, they say, “Client use of AI without the assistance of the attorney may sometimes strain the attorney-client relationship.” Discouraging client use of AI is futile, but “the wiser approach is to embrace the new technology thoughtfully, guiding clients on its appropriate use.”
In conclusion, Brandon and Beverly state that AI’s rise does not diminish the roles of attorneys. Instead, “it reinforces the need for our experience and expertise to ensure we receive relevant and accurate outputs.”
