In their article for the Daily Journal’s “New Laws” supplement, McManis Faulkner Partner Brandon Rose and Associate Raechele Jang discuss California SB 1427, a new law allowing married couples to jointly file for dissolution of marriage.
“SB 1427 provides cooperative divorcing parties the option of filing a joint petition to dissolve their marriage,” they say. The law reduces the adversarial dynamic of respondent and petitioner and gives “both parties the dignity of equal footing under the law.”
SB 1427 takes effect Jan 1, 2026.
