Matthew Schechter Certified as Appellate Law Specialist by State Bar of California

May 1, 2025 McManis Faulkner

McManis Faulkner congratulates partner Matthew Schechter for his certification by the State Bar of California as an Appellate Law Specialist.

The State Bar certifies attorneys as specialists who have gone beyond the standard licensing requirements. To receive certification, an attorney must pass a written examination; demonstrate significant trial and court experience; and receive favorable evaluations by other attorneys and judges familiar with the attorney’s work in the specialty area of law. Attorneys must recertify every five years.

“We are pleased to see Matt certified as a specialist in Appellate Law. As chair of our Appellate Practice Group, his well-deserved specialist certification – a result of his hard work and dedication to this important area of law – greatly benefits his clients and strengthens and deepens our appellate law team,” said James McManis, McManis Faulkner founder and partner.

Chair of the firm’s Appellate Practice Group, Schechter, an experienced trial lawyer, has a varied civil litigation practice, encompassing both appellate and employment matters. His trial experience includes cases involving wrongful termination, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour law claims, trade secrets misappropriation, copyright infringement, and breach of contract. Schechter was previously an Assistant District Attorney in the Queens County District Attorney’s Office. He is an active member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, previously serving on the Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee. He also is a Conference of California Bar Association (CCBA) delegate, serving on the board of directors since 2014. Schechter earned his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School (1996) and his B.A. from Bowdoin College (1991).

McManis Faulkner, a San Jose, California based trial firm, provides a full range of litigation services, representing both corporations and individuals through trial and appeal.
