McManis Faulkner partner A.J. Bastida was interviewed by The Mercury News about his verdict in favor of Kyle Johnson against the City of San Jose. A federal jury awarded more than $1.3 million to Johnson, who was shot by a police projectile at a George Floyd protest in downtown San Jose in 2020. The incident resulted in a leg injury. Bastida served as Johnson’s lead attorney in the case.
“He was doing nothing more than exercising his constitutional rights and he should never have been harmed,” said Bastida. “It validates what we had initially reported to the City, that Mr. Johnson’s rights were violated.”
