McManis Faulkner served as local counsel for the plaintiff class in Csupo v. Google LLC, a landmark case filed by law firms Korein Tillery and Bartlit Beck to vindicate the rights of over 14 million Android device users in California. On July 1, following a monthlong trial, a Santa Clara County jury found that Google transferred data from users’ devices without their consent for surveillance purposes, including targeted advertising, while unlawfully consuming users’ cellular data in the process.
“The jury’s award underscores the harm Google’s actions caused to millions of customers,” said Elizabeth Pipkin, McManis Faulkner’s managing partner and lead local counsel in the matter. “This case sets an important precedent by establishing that users have a property right in their cellular data.”
