Brandon Rose Offers Insight on Using Counsel in Divorce

In his byline article for Divorce Magazine, partner Brandon Rose looks at the dangers of proceeding with a divorce without legal counsel. He explains while many people try to handle their divorces without the assistance of an attorney, there are a handful of pitfalls they can avoid by working with a lawyer during the divorce.

One pitfall Brandon discusses is an “uncertain separation,” where the separation itself is in question. Perhaps there is no clear date of separation, or perhaps there is a history of domestic violence, where one spouse is afraid to tell the other that the spouse wants a divorce.

Another pitfall is a ‘lengthy separation’. Brandon says, “Whatever the reason for a long separation, without the assistance of counsel, a long separation may cause accounting and reimbursement issues that complicate a divorce and make it more expensive.”
